Greater Antilles

The Greater Antilles is a collection of five major Caribbean islands, including Cuba, Dominican Republic, Haiti, Jamaica and Puerto Rico.

Bahamas & Bermuda

More than 700 islands make up the Bahamas. Bermuda is located about 800 miles northeast of The Bahamas in the Atlantic Ocean.

Lesser Antilles

The Lesser Antilles form a crescent of islands stretching south just off the coast of Venezuela. The Lesser Antilles are commonly divided into the Windward and the Leeward Antilles.

Central America

The geography of Central America varies from white sand beaches to lush mountain interiors. Explore the diverse geography of Central America in this section.

  • Belize  
      
    The geography of Belize most notably includes the Belize Barrier Reef, the second largest barrier reef in the world. Belize is a land with a lush tropical interior, modern cities and a rich coastland famous for diving.
  • Costa Rica  
      
    Costa Rica borders Nicaragua to the north and Panama to the South. The mountainous terrain includes 100 volcanic cones and peaks nearly 12,000 feet high.
  • El Salvador  
      
    El Salvador, also known as the Land of Volcanoes, is the smallest Central American country and the only to not border the Caribbean Sea. It does border Guatemala, Honduras and the Pacific Ocean.
  • Guatemala  
      
    Originally home to the Mayan empire, Guatemala is a country rich in tradition and neighbors. It borders four countries, the most of any Central American nation. Like many geographies in the region, Guatemala has a tropical climate and is quite mountainous

    Panama is most famous for its canal which enables ships to cross between both major oceans (the Atlantic and the Pacific). The thin country connects Costa Rica and Colombia and is only about 80 miles wide at its widest point.
