Physical Features

The diverse physical features in the Middle East contain the lowest point on Earth (the Dead Sea) and the second-highest mountain peak (K2).

    The Persian Gulf is an arm of the Indian Ocean in southwestern Asia, between Iran and the Arabian Peninsula.
  • Arabia  
      
    Arabia is a region of southwest Asia.

    Galilee is a mountainous region in northern Israel.
  • Mount Ararat  
      
    Mount Ararat is a mountain in eastern Turkey. According to tradition it is the place where Noah's ark came to rest.

    Mount Carmel is a mountain ridge in northwestern Israel.
  • Plain of Esdraelon  
      
    The Plain of Esdraelon is a section of northern Israel in the Jezreel Valley.

    Samaria is the capital of the Biblical kingdom of Israel (northern Palestine).
  • Euphrates River  
      
    The Euphrates River is a river in southwestern Asia.
  • Jordan River  
      
    The Jordan River is the chief river of Palestine in southwestern Asia.
  • The Shatt Al Arab River  
      
    Shatt al Arab is a river in southeastern Iraq. It is formed by the junction of the Tigris and Euphrates and flows to the Persian Gulf.

    The Tigris River is a river in south-western Asia, mainly in Iraq.
